What is a metal dome keypad?

A metal dome is a thin, curved stainless steel disc that flexes with a snap when pressed. Mounted on a printed circuit or flex, it closes the contact below — and because the snap is mechanical, the feedback never "tunes out" or changes with age.

How it works

Pressing the key center pushes the dome past its buckling point. The dome snaps downward, striking the contact pads on the board. Release, and the dome springs back with the same crisp snap — no springs, no wearing parts beyond the dome itself.

If you want a crisp click, longer life and a very low profile, metal domes win. If you want softer, quieter keys with more travel and a sealed rubber surface, silicone wins. We can even combine both — rubber keys over a dome array.
Yes. Give us your board footprint and copper pattern, and we'll supply loose domes, dome sheets with adhesive, or a full film assembly that aligns to your existing pads.
Domes are stamped from the same coil and sorted by force into tight bins. During production we verify force and travel on sample units per lot, and you can request a force test report with every batch.
